BIE Tutorial - Making images all into same width/height ratio

There are two methods to make an image into a desired width/height ratio.

First method is to put that photo on top of a square size canvas with solid color as background color.

After:
Second method is to crop either top and bottom, or left and right to get a square photo.

Our app support both methods.
First method: Canvas resize to square.
Second method: Crop to square.
we usually do not recommend following the second method, because when you bulk crop images into square shape, often you crop important part off. For the first method, by default we use white canvas, because most website use white background color. The canvas color is selectable, it doesn’t need to be white, but white has best effect based on our experience.
Now, it is time to see some examples:
Canvas resize example:
The example photo in the sunglass collection looks unchanged because it still looks like a portrait photo after expending white canvas on left and right sides. However, the benefit of making this change is that the product images are aligned. And product title and product price is also aligned. (For certain themes, if images are in different shapes, the product titles are not aligned)

Crop example:
Sometimes, when you have enough non-important margin to crop, Crop will have a better result than Canvas Resize.

The Square option in the app is same as Canvas resize to 1:1 and using white color (#ffffff) as background color. This is the best option for most stores.
